Beware the Bakla (Gay); Another Anti-Scam Issue

Homosexuals are quite common in the Philippines.  They are called bakla.  Many are transvestites (dress like women) and even take hormone pills to make themselves even more feminine.

In addition to all of the scammers, you’ll have to watch carefully for gays/baklas.  I’ve encountered quite a few who get online and pretend to be women.  Some of them don’t even think it is wrong, since they are women in their own minds.

If “she” looks a bit too tall and muscular, be suspicious.  This is another reason to be sure and exchange many pictures.  The voice will never lie, so you may want to call or talk through voice chat.

Another Tip for Asian Penpal/Dating Websites: Log in Frequently

When you join a dating/penpal website, you may feel like you are looking for a needle in a haystack.  There’s something simple you can do to increase your chances of meeting more women online–log in to the website you choose as frequently as possible.   There are three reasons:

1. Most good websites have a live chat feature, which will allow women to find you while you are online.

2. Most good websites have a “last logged in” feature on profiles–users which were logged in more recently usually get prioritized in searches.

3.  The more time you spent searching, the more likely you are to find a good match (common sense, but maybe you need to be reminded of this simple fact).

Mail Order Bride?

There is still a stigma associated with using websites to find a foreign spouse.  I guess this is based on the “mail order bride” idea.

I personally believe “mail order bride” is a misnomer.   I don’t think anyone ever “ordered” a bride in the same way he would order a product.  This defies all common sense.

Decades ago, companies such as Cherry Blossoms sent out magazines with pictures of foreign women.  Even then, the idea was to provide an opportunity for correspondence–not “buying” or “ordering” a bride.

Technology has radically changed things, and websites have taken the place of magazines.  The stigma still remains, which is unfortunate.  Dating websites are just another way for men and women to find each other.  Some websites simply specialize in connecting Western men to foreign women.  In my opinion, this has nothing to do with “ordering” a bride.
